A company vehicle covers tens of thousands of kilometres every year. Every kilometre is an opportunity to increase your brand visibility, but only when the graphics are applied professionally, correctly, and built to last.

In practice, however, many companies face the same questions: what is actually allowed on a vehicle? Do different rules apply to windows? And what about reflective markings?

In this article, we provide a clear overview of the key regulations and considerations surrounding vehicle branding in Belgium.

What Is Allowed on the Vehicle Bodywork?

When it comes to a vehicle’s bodywork, Belgian legislation offers a great deal of flexibility. Full vehicle wraps, logos, and graphic elements can generally be applied without issue to doors, side panels, cargo areas, and tailgates.

In practice, however, successful vehicle branding is about more than what is technically possible. It is about ensuring that the graphics continue to perform over the long term. A professional installation takes factors such as sensors, cameras, licence plates, weather conditions, and intensive daily use into account. Material selection also plays a crucial role in durability and appearance.

That is why effective vehicle branding always starts with expertise. A design should not only look great, but also function correctly from a technical perspective and continue to project a professional image for years to come.

What Is Allowed on Vehicle Windows?

Stricter regulations apply to vehicle windows, as the driver’s visibility is legally protected. The windscreen and front side windows may not be tinted or covered with graphics in a way that obstructs the driver’s view. As a result, applications on these windows are generally limited to small, transparent elements.

The rear window and the glazing of cargo areas offer much greater flexibility. For vans and trucks, professional perforated window films are available that display logos and graphics on the outside while maintaining full visibility from inside the vehicle. This allows businesses to maximise the available branding space without compromising functionality or safety.

Reflective Markings and Vehicle Visibility

Reflective markings are subject to specific technical standards, including ECE104 regulations. For trucks, trailers above a certain weight, and vehicles for which enhanced visibility is legally required, these markings are mandatory.

For other vehicles, reflective elements remain optional but can be seamlessly integrated into existing vehicle graphics to improve visibility and safety without compromising the overall design. Because the regulations surrounding reflective markings are more technical and extensive, we cover this topic in greater detail in a dedicated article on ECE104 applications.

Why Material Selection Makes the Difference

Not all vinyl films are created equal. For professional vehicle branding, there are significant differences in lifespan, colour retention, adhesion on various surfaces, and performance under changing temperatures. An entry-level material may look perfectly acceptable when first installed, but can start showing signs of peeling, shrinking, or fading after just one winter.

High-quality materials are engineered for five to seven years of outdoor use and maintain their appearance even under intensive daily conditions. Choosing the right material depends on several factors, including the type of vehicle, how it is used, and the environment in which it operates. A refrigerated truck that experiences daily temperature fluctuations, for example, requires a very different solution than a standard company car.

Professional Guidance from Design to Installation

Vehicle branding involves far more than simply printing and applying a design. It starts with the proper technical preparation of the vehicle, continues through careful material selection and production accuracy, and ends with an installation that is built to withstand years of daily use.

At Zenith Graphics, we manage the entire process in-house, from design and production to installation. We work with self-employed professionals operating a single vehicle, as well as organisations managing fleets of more than 3,000 vehicles where consistency across every vehicle is essential.

As a certified partner of both 3M and Avery Dennison, we receive direct support from two of the industry’s leading vehicle film manufacturers. This gives us access to their technical expertise and allows us to offer extensive warranties on both materials and workmanship, depending on the project.

We have also developed specialised expertise in regulated applications for emergency, safety, and police vehicles. For larger fleet projects, we can measure the impact of vehicle branding on visibility and brand recognition, helping organisations not only enhance their image but also gain valuable insights into the reach and effectiveness of their mobile advertising.
