The public transport company “De Lijn” has made major changes to its bus network. The reorganisation includes adjusted timetables, optimisation of travel routes and new bus-line numbers.

22.000 new bus stop signs

The manufacturing and replacement of 22,000 bus stop signs across Flanders for De Lijn’s new accessibility plan are at the core of this project. From September to November, we produced approximately 22,000 signs, covering the total territory of Flanders. Our responsibility extended to the replacement of existing bus stops, where the internal teams of  De Lijn managed the installation of the new bus stop signs. Additionally, we incorporated QR codes, timetables, and informational posters at each bus stop.

Production and organisation

In crafting bus stop signs, precision is crucial. We produced 22.000 aluminum plates, personalized the prints on 3M material, protected the prints for long term application and assembled the total into a finished bus stop sign.  We ensured a high-level quality, avoiding air bubbles. After the production phase is complete, the signs are organized based on route, location, and route number, ready for handover to a dedicated installer.

Placement and replacement

Our Project Management involves routing each installer to follow a custom-made trajectory. They sequentially replace existing signs and posters, ensuring a systematic approach. Photos are taken after each installation and posted in a dedicated mobile app for verification, allowing for real-time tracking and quality control. Any unforeseen issue is reported in the mobile app for accurate recording. The mobile app determines the sequence of stops, whether both sides of the road need replacement, or only one, simplifying the installation process.

Our internal Project Management team managed the project in close collaboration with the Project Management team of De Lijn.  We organized a daily alignment to tackle urgent issues on the field, as well as a weekly Project Management meeting which includes installers, administrative support, and project management.

Future plans

Even though this project is temporary, Zenith Graphics is and remains a reliable and longstanding partner for De Lijn. Now that all signs are in place, we will continue our collaboration as their trusted partner in future endeavors.
